About the Program
The Virtuoso Viol
Featuring works by Tobias Hume (1580–1645), Marin Marais (1656–1728), Johann Sebastien Bach (1685–1750), and others, The Virtuoso Viol is a grand European tour of virtuosic repertoire for the viol duo. Spanning nearly two centuries of music, this program takes listeners from 17th-century England, through Louis XIV’s France, and finally to the Rhine and musical world of Bach.
“Napper and Corriveau produce a wonderfully resonant sound, the phrasing keenly articulated. The German poet Goethe once described chamber musicians as ‘having a conversation’ and this is certainly the case with the intimate and intuitive approach taken by the two performers.”—the WholeNote
