New Discoveries: The Extraordinary Manuscripts of Albani da Urbino
An incredible collection of lute, theorbo, and viola da gamba manuscripts was recently discovered in the library of an important Italian noble family in Pesaro. The lute manuscripts of Albani da Urbino (1576–1653) contain a large number of previously unknown works by Lorenzino Tracetti (1552–1590) and the Cavaliere del Liuto (Knight of the Lute), the two most important Italian lute virtuosi of the late 16th century. New Discoveries revives these previously lost dances, fantasias, and variations that represent the pinnacle of Renaissance lute repertoire.
