J.S. Bach Works for Lute Vol. 2 by Jadran Duncumb out now!

Presenting J.S. Bach Works for Lute Vol. 2 by Jadran Duncumb, a unique reading of the master organist’s exquisite music through the prism of the lute and its unique palette of colours, ornaments and resonances.

Since performing Bach’s Partita 1006a as a finalist on BBC Young Musician of the year, Jadran Duncumb has spent 16 years exploring the piece and its influences, and has now finally recorded it along with the suite BWV 996 and the Prelude, Fugue & Allegro BWV 998, with his mentor, tutor and now producer, Rolf Lislevand. The most idyllic setting provided inspiration for the continuation of a completely unique reading of the master organist’s exquisite music, seen through the prism of the lute and its unique palette of colours, ornaments and resonances. Jadran Duncumb’s groundbreaking recording of Bach’s Works for Lute Vol. 1 was honoured with a Diapason D’Or (May 2021).

“This volume was recorded over two periods in 2024 in the aptly named Moosika Studios, Lislevatn. Adjacent to an old farmhouse, it is a repurposed barn in a very sparsely populated region of Norway approximately five hours drive from the capital surrounded only by forests, steep hills, and lakes. Eight days of recording is a long time, but the serenity of the surroundings, with deep snow in March and the chatter of birds and insects in May made it a wonderful location to experiment and explore the sonorities and expressivity of the lute in Bach’s music in a relaxed but focused setting. The only interruptions were to visit relatively nearby Evje to purchase beer, Norwegian pølser (sausages) and Grandiosas (Frozen pizza) – ‘delicacies’ not quite as exquisite as the surroundings, but Baroque music is all about contrast after all!” – JADRAN DUNCUMB
