EMF’s Online Music Instrument Auction Extended to February 22

70 Lots Include Keyboards, Winds, Strings & Percussion

The auction website can be accessed here.

The Early Music Foundation’s online auction of music instruments has been extended by a week, in order to include eight new lots, generously offered by two members of the community inspired by our original announcement. Bids will be accepted through Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 5 PM EST. Proceeds will go towards funding the programs and supporting the mission of the Early Music Foundation.

Among the new additions are a Flemish harpsichord made by Edward L. Kottick of Iowa City (signed and dated 1982), owned and lovingly played by Miriam Laster for the past four decades. Also from Ms. Laster, a Memling harp made by one of the foremost luthiers in the field, Lynne Lewandowski; and five recorders by such famed makers as Moeck and Mollenhauer. Finally, contributed by John J. Roberts, a special wood music stand designed specifically for quartets, with four score racks mounted on a central base.

We encourage interested bidders to inspect the instruments personally or send someone to do so on their behalf. Instruments are located at EMF’s office in New York City and can be inspected by appointment. Please contact Daniel Guss, General Manager, at 212-749-6600 or d.guss@earlymusicny.org.

This is an exceptional opportunity for aspiring and established musicians in the field of  historically informed performance, as well as for patrons and enthusiasts, who can acquire instruments in order to make them available to musicians who otherwise could not afford them.

Special thanks to the following individuals, who helped with preparations and assessments: Eric Haas; Grant Herreid; Danny Mallon; Patricia Ann Neely; Christa Patton; Dongsok Shin; Tricia van Oers.

Please share this notice with other members of New York’s historically informed performance community.
