Biography

William Scobie studied violin with Richard Burgin, who was then the concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. As a result of the Saint Louis Symphony Prize Competition, Mr. Scobie’s professional career began with the Saint Louis Little Symphony in the summer of 1958. During his tenure as Assistant Concertmaster of the Tulsa Philharmonic Society, he was Leader and First Violinist of the Tulsa Philharmonic String Quartet and appeared often in solo recital.

After serving as Assistant Professor of Music at Millikin University, where he was a member of the Millikin Trio and the Conductor of the Millikin-Civic Orchestra, he was appointed to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. In September of 2011, Mr. Scobie retired from the DSO after 42 years of service. He continues to perform, both on Baroque and modern violin.
