This year’s EMA Summit will now be held online October 17-19 with select hybrid events from MontrĂ©al on Friday, October 17. Submit your EMA Summit presentation proposal or apply for the virtual Emerging Artists Showcase through Monday, May 19 at 11:59 p.m.

In recent weeks, EMA has been monitoring government policies that could impact our ability to host the 2025 Summit, planned for Montréal. Several of our members have expressed concerns about international travel due to the alarming number of detentions at the border. We’re also hearing about budget cuts at research universities that may impact early-music programs, and many people might find the cost of traveling to Montréal prohibitive in this economic climate.

With all this in mind, going virtual is the right thing to do. This is in many ways a disappointment, but we are actually very excited for this format, which will allow for a major global gathering.

We have long wanted to create more space for Spanish-language presentations from Latin American performers and scholars, and everyone will be able to participate via the magic of AI translations. Our many European partners will be able to join us as well.

You can expect:

  • Sessions for arts leaders
  • Opportunities for presenters, artist managers, and performers to network
  • Presentations on the latest early-music scholarship
  • Virtual performances by our Emerging Artists Showcase and Young Performers Festival participants
  • Several hybrid events live-streamed from MontrĂ©al, supporting the vibrant Canadian scene
