MUSICIANS OF THE OLD POST ROAD
presents a special
35th Anniversary Gala
with emcee Laura Carlo,
WCRB’s Morning Program Host
Tuesday, May 14, 2024, 6:00 pm
The Nathaniel Allen House
35 Webster Street, Newton MA
The acclaimed period instrument chamber ensemble Musicians of the Old Post Road celebrates its 35th anniversary season with a Gala event on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 6pm, at the historic Nathaniel Allen House in Newton, Massachusetts. The evening will include live performances by the ensemble, delectable catered fare, and a silent auction featuring unique art and tantalizing special experiences. WCRB’s Morning Program host Laura Carlo will emcee the event.
Musicians of the Old Post Road takes its name from its concert series that brings performances of music of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries to beautiful historic buildings along New England’s fabled Old Post Road. In addition to its annual subscription concert series, the ensemble has performed at festivals and on concert series across North America and in Europe.
In addition to honoring this milestone season, the Gala will pay tribute to the ensemble’s receiving of the Noah Greenberg Award from the American Musicological Society for an unprecedented second time. The prize recognizes the rediscovery work of Co-Artistic Directors Suzanne Stumpf and Daniel Ryan, rewarding their recent efforts to bring to light chamber music of Baroque composer Christoph Graupner.
Funds raised by this Gala will support the recording and production of the ensemble’s highly-anticipated eighth CD, which will include the premiere recordings of four of Graupner’s pieces. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear these works performed live at the Gala. Musicians for the Gala performances, all of whom will play on period instruments, include flutist Suzanne Stumpf, violinist Sarah Darling, violinist Jesse Irons, violist Marcia Cassidy, cellist Daniel Ryan, and harpsichordist Benjamin Katz.
The fête’s Silent Auction will include original artwork, handmade ceramics, a Block Island vacation getaway, a private observatory tour, and gourmet desserts made to order, among many offerings. Musical experiences from lessons to concert tickets will also be up for bid. Newton-based Better Life Food will cater the party, providing passed appetizers and dinner.
