November 23th, 5 PM EST Time
Alfonso X the Wise of Leon and Castille, born on November 23, 1221, was a medieval king who led the production of one of the most important cultural legacies in the Iberian peninsula. It includes the “Cantigas of Santa María”, 420 poems in Galician-Portuguese with musical notation, devoted to the Virgin Mary.
Laudate Dominum, an Argentine ensemble of Medieval and Renaissance music, will host a virtual celebration of Alfonso’s 800th birthday with some of the canticles performed by Laudate and guests from Argentina, USA, UK and México.
