28 Sep 2012 [SEATTLE, WA] — Early Music America has appointed Ann Felter, a dynamic arts administrator and development professional based in Pittsburgh, as EMA’s new Executive Director. (She succeeds retiring Executive Director Maria Coldwell.) Best known in the early music world as the former Executive Director of Renaissance & Baroque in Pittsburgh (1999-2008), Felter has an outstanding leadership record of working with boards and artists, has excelled in every area of fundraising, and has produced special events and diverse programming for several nonprofit organizations.
“Ann’s extensive experience in the nonprofit sector and specifically early music will be a great fit for Early Music America,” said Bob Johnson, EMA Board President. “The Board is confident in her abilities to lead EMA during its next phase of growth.”
Most recently, Ann Felter has served as the Major Gifts Officer for Pittsburgh’s Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation, the nation’s largest research institute devoted exclusively to the health concerns of women and infants. There Felter developed and implemented a comprehensive major gifts program, which has resulted in increased giving of over 350% since her arrival. Previously, she served as Development Director of Tickets for Kids Charities, where she oversaw all aspects of development, including grant-writing and special events as well as individual giving. During her eight years as Executive Director of Renaissance & Baroque, Felter created strategic, development and marketing plans for the organization, as well as managing concerts and staff. She has a Master’s degree in Arts Administration from Indiana University, and a Bachelor’s degree in music performance from Gettysburg College. She currently serves on the boards of the Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society and Gateway to the Arts.
