Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado Announces Apprentice Openings

Applications are now being accepted for the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado’s Apprentice Program for the 2025-2026 season. The Apprentice Program provides the opportunity for a recent college graduate, current graduate student, or pre-professional musician to play with a professional Baroque orchestra. Since the founding of the group, the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado (BCOC) has had 12 apprentices successfully complete the program. This 2023 article in EMAg (the Early Music America magazine) provides additional background information on our program:

Apprentices as Colleagues and Sometimes as Teachers

Apprenticeships with the orchestra may involve one or two seasons, depending on the needs of the orchestra and the situation and goals of the apprentice. Apprentices receive tailored mentoring and instruction from the leaders and members of BCOC.

BCOC believes that there are many valid paths to a career in historical performance. Candidates with nontraditional backgrounds and paths are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates may include musicians who are based in Colorado during their apprenticeship, and those who are located elsewhere in the U.S. For the latter, when accepted into the program BCOC will reimburse airfare and provide transportation and host housing during concert weeks they participate in.

Applications are now being accepted for these instruments: violin, double bass/violone, and guitar/lute/theorbo. Completed applications are due by May 30, 2025. Decisions will be announced by June 15, 2025 for the new season, which begins in October 2025. To begin an application or to find out more, please send an initial inquiry email to Frank Nowell, BCOC Artistic Director, at artisticdir@bcocolorado.org.
