Early Music Now announces their 38th season!

Entering its 38th year, Early Music Now is one of the nation’s premier presenters of Medieval, Renaissance, and early Baroque music.

Offering more than thirty performances this season, Early Music Now presents a subscription series of internationally renowned ensembles, a pay what you like series featuring professional Milwaukee-area musicians, a robust educational outreach program, and a fully staged opera–all presented in historic Milwaukee venues.

The Queen’s Six
Travelling Spies: Music, Travel and Espionage in the Renaissance

Returning to Milwaukee after a triumphant debut in 2018, The Queen’s Six live inside the walls of Windsor Castle and perform weekly for the Royal Family. This a capella program presents tales of intrigue from the Elizabethan age, featuring music by Claudio Monteverdi, John Taverner and William Byrd.

The Man in the Moon: Songs and Tales of Medieval Albion

Leaders in the field of Medieval singing and accompaniment, these two artists present a program of narratives, dramatic monologues, and meditations on life and death, coupled with music from the lighter and lustier side of Medieval Europe. Featuring Anne Azéma (voice and hurdy gurdy) and Shira Kammen (vielle, harp).

Rachel Barton Pine with Trio Settecento & Guests
A Baroque Christmas

This delightful program of pastoral Yuletide selections from the Baroque era features the inimitable violinist Rachel Barton Pine, cellist John Mark Rozendaal, and harpsichordist David Schrader in a Christmastime celebration of joy, winter, and spiritual salvation. Includes music of Bach, Handel, and a selection from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

ModernMedieval Voices
The Living Word:
Music of Hildegard

ModernMedieval Voices is an ensemble of three women founded by Dr. Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek, formerly of Anonymous 4.  This program features some of Hildegard of Bingen’s most ecstatic chants. Included in this program are O Jerusalem and O Viridissima Virga, alongside polyphonic music from the 12th and 13th centuries celebrating the Virgin Mary.

The Valencia Baryton Project: A Haydn Collective           

Founded by Matthew Baker, one of only a handful of baryton performers in the world, this ensemble specializes in the music of Franz Joseph Haydn, who composed over 120 works for the baryton during his time as court composer for Prince Esterhazy of Austria. The program includes other 18th-century compositions, along with contemporary works that welcome the baryton into the 21st century.

alon: Scenes from a French Landscape 

An immersive concert that guides audiences through the varied locales iconic to Renaissance France. This young, emerging ensemble of six musicians was named as one of Early Music America’s 2024 Emerging Artists.  Magdalena embarks on their first North American tour with this premiere performance in Milwaukee!
