I Capuleti e i Montecchi

July 25 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm EDT

$25 – $125

Teatro Nuovo presents Bel Canto classics and rarities with a period-instrument orchestra and a performing style the Wall Street Journal calls “transformative.” Vincenzo Bellini had no plans to write a Romeo and Juliet opera, but when last-minute circumstances led him to the story, it proved the perfect match for his gift of endless melody. The resulting work quickly spread to every opera-loving city in the world, and produced what Philip Gossett called the most moving final scene in all of Italian opera. Pre-opera serenade at 6:00pm: Music for Romeo and Juliet by Vaccai, Zingarelli, Tchaikovsky, and Stephen Foster. Pre-opera lecture at 6:30pm: Will Crutchfield introduces “I Capuleti e i Montecchi.”
