About
Staunton Music Festival’s mission is to offer exceptional chamber music performed by international caliber musicians at historic venues throughout Staunton in a way that is accessible to all. Concert programs are innovative and seek a balance between old and new music. SMF musicians include local, national, and international artists, many of whom are acclaimed for their knowledge of historical performance traditions. We believe in the power of live classical music to transform the region and all of its residents.
From modest beginnings in 1998, Staunton Music Festival is recognized today as one of the region’s most innovative and accomplished chamber music organizations. Over 100 musicians are engaged annually to perform the eclectic mix of programs that range from the Middle Ages to commissioned world premieres. In April 2025 SMF will present BaroqueFest: Bach's Passion (featuring 7 period-instrument concerts). The signature event takes place in August, when the Summer Festival (August 15-25, 2025) offers 30 concerts over 10 consecutive days.
