LEARN TO READ & SING GREGORIAN CHANT!

Mountainside Baroque is delighted to again host Matthew Riegel, Lutheran Bishop of West Virginia, in an interactive musical experience, Echoes of the Oratory: Chant-Along #2, to take place on Saturday, February 8, beginning at 3 pm, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 15 N. Smallwood St., in Cumberland. This is a non-ticketed event and donations will be accepted. Light refreshments will be available.

Initially launched during the 2023-2024 season, Mountainside Baroque’s interactive musical events are designed to offer opportunities for those in our community to experience new skills in a friendly setting. Bishop Riegel, also a member of the Mountainside Baroque Board of Directors, will act a facilitator in exploring the history of Gregorian Chant, as well as providing an engaging opportunity to learn to read and sing this style of singing. Beginners are welcome as Matt’s humor guides them through initial easy pieces, followed by challenges for more advanced singers as well. It should be a fun, low-pressure group experience, aided by members of the Scholars of St. Cecilia (Mountainside’s local choir), who will also be participating. Please plan to come be a part of this fun activity!

Directed by Ryan Mullaney and Lyle Nordstrom, Mountainside Baroque has brought the engaging music of the Baroque, Renaissance and Classical eras to Cumberland through performances by fine musicians from across the country–concerts that rival those heard at the nation’s major cities. Audiences have consistently grown in number, a testament to the interest of music lovers in Western Maryland.
