Early Music Missouri continues its collaborative presentations with the St. Louis Art Museum on November 29 with a free concert of Renaissance vocal music for the Christmas season. The program takes place in Grigg Gallery as part of SLAM’s Festive Friday events. This performance is the second of three EMMo will offer during the 2024 Holiday Season at SLAM.
The program celebrates the Christmas season with vocal and instrumental music ranging from Gregorian chant to High Renaissance motets. The repertoire includes a festive mix of seasonal motets and carols, including Tomás Luis de Victoria’s O magnum mysterium and Michael Praetorius’s In dulci jubilo and Es ist ein Ros entsprungen. The performers–Samantha Arten, Olivia Roland, Jeffrey Ballard and Kevin Warner–perform regularly as members of EMMo’s Vocal Ensemble as well as with many other choral ensembles in the region. The singers will introduce and discuss the music and audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions about the music and Early Music performance.
SLAM is open to the public and on Festive Fridays the museum is open late and admission to special exhibitions is free.
