Early Music Missouri continues its collaborative presentations with the St. Louis Art Museum on November 22 with a free concert of music for solo violin & theorbo. The program takes place in Grigg Gallery as part of SLAM’s Festive Friday events. This performance is the first of three EMMo will offer during the 2024 Holiday Season at SLAM.

For this presentation, Baroque violinist Celina Boldrey will perform music by 17th-century composers Arcangelo Corelli, Biagio Marini, Heinrich Schmelzer and others. She will be accompanied by Jeffrey Noonan, playing archlute, theorbo and Baroque guitar. The music includes early virtuosic sonatas, exciting variations on popular tunes and even a sweet lullaby. Celina Boldrey performs regularly with Early Music Missouri and has played with a number of other Early Music ensembles across the Midwest. She plays a French violin built in 1725. Jeff Noonan, founder and director of EMMo, has performed Early Music in the region and across the country for over forty years. He plays modern reproductions of historical 17th-century plucked instruments. The players will introduce and discuss both the music and their instruments and audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and to see the instruments up close.

SLAM is open to the public and on Festive Fridays the museum is open late and admission to special exhibitions is free.

Early Music Missouri is the region’s foremost promoter and presenter of Early Music concerts. Its performances feature Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque repertoire performed on period instruments by expert performers from the region and nation.
