Pre-Concert Lecture – 6:30 pm
Long associated with the Sistine Chapel, Palestrina’s actual time as a singer in the Pope’s choir was brief. He spent many more years associated with the choir of St. Peter’s Basilica, the Cappella Giulia. This concert will feature music composed in later years of his life between 1571 and his death in 1594. The concert will highlight his often overlooked compositions for two choirs and features the eight-voice Missa Confitebor tibi Domine, along with motets and offertories.
