And to be honest, there’ll be more than 24!
In this interactive online workshop, we’ll be looking at the beautiful Second Concert from the Concerts Royaux of François Couperin (1668-1733). Written in D major, this is a perfect piece to be played on the baroque flute and offers much to learn about French style, aesthetics, and ornamentation. Beyond all that, it’s simply a gorgeous piece of music and is one of the most popular pieces in the baroque flute repertoire.
I will share the important concepts in interpreting French baroque music, and how to translate that into our flute-playing in specific instances and passages in each of Couperin’s movements. How can we sound really tendrement? How do we play ornaments gracieusement? How do we coordinate articulation and inegalité to portray gayement? What’s the difference between how the notes look on the page compared to how we’d actually play them? Look forward to taking your playing to the next level!
