Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra Announces 2021-2022 Season
The Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra is pleased to announce its 2021-2022 season. The IBO season subscription includes five exciting concert featuring beloved works by Handel and Mozart, in addition to chamber music from the court of Marquis of Jaral in Mexico City, and an IIBC Laureate concert featuring solo works for Baroque trumpet. Performances will take place at venues throughout Indianapolis, including the Indiana History Center, Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center, and Second Presbyterian Church. Season subscriptions are available now – individual tickets will be available from September 1.
The season launches on September 12 with a program curated by Guillermo Salas Suárez that celebrates the patronage of Miguel de Berrio y Saldívar, Marqués de Jaral de Berrio in 18th-century Mexico City. In October, IBO is pleased to welcome Jeremy Rhizor as Guest Concertmaster and Curator of a program of music for Baroque string band. A beloved holiday tradition, IBO will offer Indianapolis’ only period- performance of Handel’s Messiah, in collaboration with Dr. Michelle Louer and the Beecher Singers of Second Presbyterian Church. In February 2022, we are excited to welcome IBO Artistic Director Barthold Kuijken back to Indianapolis to lead Towards Mozart, a program that explores the cultural environment that predicated Mozart’s compositional development. The final season program is the annual IIBC Laureate Series, celebrating the performance and accomplishments of past laureates of the Indianapolis International Baroque Competition. This year’s concert will feature 2016 Laureate, Baroque trumpeter Dominic Favia. A full season schedule can be found below.
The 2020-2021 season will also include two newly developed education programs. To accompany our Messiah performance in December, IBO will host an instrument demonstration and introduction to Handel’s Messiah in collaboration with Second Presbyterian Church. To kick off the new year, IBO’s annual Growing Up Baroque program will be presented in partnership with the Indianapolis Public Library in mid-Janury.

The Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra will host in-person events throughout the 2021-2022 season, in observance of guidelines set forth by the CDC and local health authorities. Audiences will be required to wear procedure masks, sanitize hands and have temperatures taken before admittance to season events.
