RenChorNY presents Monteverdi ORFEO (1607) in Relief of Los Angeles (2025) For a Gonzaga 1607 celebration, Striggio adopted the ancient (from Plato) Orpheus and Euridice story, ‘humanizing’ the tragic ending a bit. Monteverdi’s great music allows the drama to process from the joyous wedding-through the shades of the underworld as the hero Orpheus will not let his love die. The Chorus comments and incorporates those who guide or detract him from his goals. Opinions differ as to the motive of the tragedy, our artists are clear about their roles, however. The performance is led by Richard Porterfield, with players of early + instruments. It is in Five Acts. We are happy to join the Early Music Community in providing our Audience proceeds to Los Angeles Government Relief groups. 7pm Saturday June 28, 2025 https://www.renaissancechorus….
