About

Bama Baroque is an early music ensemble based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, founded in 2024 by Baroque violinist Lindsey Tootle, keyboardist Dr. Michael Delfin, and faculty and staff from the University of Alabama and the UA School of Music. As Alabama’s newest professional historical performance ensemble, Bama Baroque is one of the only such groups in the state’s history – and certainly the first of its scope and kind.

Recognizing the limited history of early music performances on period instruments in Alabama, Bama Baroque was created to fill this critical gap. Set to offer its first performances in 2025, Bama Baroque will offer high-caliber, historically informed performances of Baroque and folk music from the 17th and 18th centuries. With this distinctive blend of programming, Bama Baroque aims to connect with Alabama audiences in a way that feels both inspiring and familiar, while also celebrating Alabama’s rich and colorful tapestry of folk traditions.

Accessibility, inclusivity, engagement, and relevance are at the heart of Bama Baroque’s mission. Supported by the University of Alabama, the UA School of Music, and the School of Music's Community Music School, the ensemble intends to share the joy of early music through concerts, workshops, and community outreach initiatives. The founders of Bama Baroque envision it becoming a beloved and culturally significant cornerstone of Alabama’s musical landscape.

Addendum: An inaugural performance is scheduled for March 29, 2025, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Please follow Bama Baroque on our website and on our Facebook and Instagram accounts for exciting updates!
