About

Boston Baroque engages worldwide audiences in a fresh, modern voice for early orchestral, choral, and operatic music. With the resident period instrument orchestra, professional chamber chorus, and outstanding guest soloists, Boston Baroque reaches local, national, and international audiences with concerts, touring, recordings, radio broadcasts, and our electronic media platform.

Boston Baroque is the first permanent period-instrument orchestra established in North America and is widely regarded as being among the world’s leading period- instrument ensembles. Founded in 1973 by Music Director Martin Pearlman, the orchestra is comprised of some of the finest period-instrument players in the U.S.; they are joined by the ensemble’s professional chorus and by guest soloists from around the world. The ensemble presents an exciting annual subscription series consisting of five programs performed at Jordan Hall in Boston, and also at Sanders Theatre in Cambridge for their annual New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day festivities. Since 2013, the orchestra has performed an annual Free Community Concert series at the Strand Theatre in Uphams Corner in Dorchester as a way to make the music accessible to all. The group tours both nationally and internationally and reaches an audience of millions around the globe with 24 critically acclaimed recordings, including three Grammy®- nominated albums.

More recently, in 2014, the orchestra launched Boston Baroque Radio, a 24/7 internet radio station featuring our commercial recordings. Today the station accessed by over 300,000 listeners worldwide every week, and be heard in iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio and Bose Radio.
