For this online release of our May 7 in-person concert, Rezonance once again brings you the music of Scottish composer James Oswald! Oswald wrote “Airs for the Seasons” as a collection for combinations of flute or violin plus continuo. Thematically, they are grouped into four seasons and each air is named after a flower. This very distinctive collection stems from Oswald’s interest in traditional Scottish music while incorporating some of the flamboyance and chromaticism reminiscent of the Italian Baroque style and crossing into the little-known “galant,” or early Classical style.
