A “Classical Confluence” from across the pond! Featuring the U.S. debut of the acclaimed U.K. ensemble Siglo de Oro.
Described by The Washington Post as “genuinely beautiful…rapturous musicmaking”, the Washington, D.C.-based Suspicious Cheese Lords join forces with Siglo de Oro to present a scintillating joint program of early music. The Suspicious Cheese Lords will sing music from their latest recording, including a Palestrina Magnificat and a movement of the Missa Illumina oculos meos, neither of which had been previously recorded.
The vocal ensemble Siglo de Oro makes their American premiere with music of William Byrd, Philippe de Monte, and Thomas Weelkes. Gramophone has described Siglo de Oro as “Confident, sonorous and full of character.”
The ensembles will then join forces to present Byrd’s Ne Irascaris Domine/Civitas Sancti Tui and Francesco Soriano’s double-choir Laetare Jerusalem.
Saturday, September 16, 2023, 7:30 p.m., St. Mary Mother of God Church, 727 Fifth Street NW, Washington, D.C., free-will offering; no tickets or reservations required.
