EMV Artist-in-Residence Alon Sariel invites bowed and plucked
string players to explore Bach’s music between the bow and the
plectrum. In the tranquil atmosphere of the University of British
Columbia campus, Sariel will lead the workshop’s orchestra, coach
chamber ensembles and hold public masterclasses. A wide range of
topics will be discussed, from better understanding of harmony to
creating performance possibilities.
The orchestral/chamber sessions will concentrate on early music
(works by Bach, Marcello, Vivaldi, Geminiani and their
contemporaries), the repertoire for the private coaching is up to the
student.
The sheet music for the orchestral/chamber sessions will be sent two weeks after the subscription deadline. Participants will have the opportunity to receive coaching on their piece(s) of choice,
preferably Bach’s solo music.
This course is intended for musicians of intermediate/advanced
level, amateurs and professionals, interested in historical
performance practice.
Schedule:
Morning: 10 am – 1 pm
Lunch: 1-2 pm
Afternoon: 2 pm – 5 pm
