This is the final “act” of Antoine Brumel’s Lamentations, the complete version of which I discovered in Florence in 2018. It represents Christ enclosed in the tomb before the Resurrection, at the darkest point in the Passion story. It has had a huge effect on us as performers, and on our audiences – it is music of great emotional power.
We are currently touring this work, and are in limbo as to whether performances can carry on or not, particularly during Holy Week; we are also losing performers to the uncertainty of travel situation and because of health conditions that make performance too risky a prospect. Hoping that everyone keeps safe, and that the situation will resolve before long.
